The Sursee region boasts extremely attractive scenery with green hills and the picturesque Sempachersee lake. The region’s main locality, Sursee, is a charming small town with a well-preserved and lively old town that is home to historic buildings and intimate cafés.

The city of Lucerne and its environs form the largest region in the canton. Over half of the canton’s population lives in the world-famous tourist city and the surrounding emerging towns and communities. This also makes it a lot more urban than the rest of the canton of Lucerne. As the major city of Central Switzerland, it forms the vibrant centre and offers attractive residential areas as well as a wealth of leisure and cultural activities. Events, concerts and markets are held here regularly.

The Entlebuch region hosts Switzerland’s first biosphere reserve. The unique landscape boasts more natural treasures than almost any other region in Switzerland. There is a reason why the region is known as the “Wild West” of Lucerne. The snug villages and down-to-earth character of this region have a special charm and invite you to experience the traditional Swiss way of life. Despite its rural location, the cities of Lucerne and Bern are reachable in no time. This proximity factor is also typical of the canton of Lucerne and Switzerland in general.

The lake district is also famous for its orchards and vineyards. The regional centres of Hochdorf and Hitzkirch also harbour a wealth of history and culture. The region is also an important industrial base, with some of the largest industrial companies in the canton located here – offering interesting job opportunities.

The Willisau region features the unspoilt nature of the Napf region as well as the vast expanse of the Wauwilermoos. The traditional small town of Willisau, the economic and cultural centre of the region, brings history and modernity together in harmony. Well-preserved historic buildings, manicured gardens and a lively cultural scene all await you here. The Willisau region offers a perfect balance between idyllic countryside and urban flair. The folk festivals of the Lucerne hinterland – as the region is popularly known – are also legendary, and not just when the Willisau wrestlers win yet another Swiss championship.
